SCRRBA Updates Channel Spacing

on 440 Band

By Joe Provenza, W6UPN

The Southern California Repeater and Remote Base Association (SCRRBA) coordinates the 440 Band in our area, and they have changed the channel spacing on the 440 band to 20 Khz. In so doing, SCRRBA has opened up 21 frequencies for Open repeaters. There are at least 58 repeaters on these frequencies.

As most of us have experienced, most of the 440 band frequencies are Closed or Private, meaning one needs permission of the owners to utilize these repeaters. So many people have dual band (144/440) radios that there is a big demand for open frequencies on the 440 band, and SCRRBA has been criticized for the lack of open frequencies. In response to the demand, they have rearranged the band plan to provide for more Open frequencies.

In the latest Repeater Directories, the Open repeaters will be listed first in the 440 Southern California area with the frequencies, access tones and location for coverage.

The open frequencies are:

445.20 445.52 445.56 445.58 445.60 445.62

445.62 445.64 445.66 445.68 445.90 446.40

447.00 447.02 447.20 447.32 447.58 449.20

449.30 449.50 449.70 and our own local 449.780Mhz.
