General
Membership Meeting on February 2, 2001. DRAFT 4 FEB 2001
The
meeting is held at the Signal Hill Community Center and called to order by
President John Rogers KF6TTR at 7:10 p.m.
The
Flag Salute is led by John Rogers KF6TTR.
Visitors welcomed Joe and Dot Maynard, of Long Beach,
and Endaff Buckley MW1BQO, of the Country of Wales, United Kingdom. Endaff is invited to address the members and
tells about the new United Kingdom “M” call sign prefix. For England “M”, Wales, “MW”. He moved to Long Beach weeks ago, is engaged
to marry here and plans to stay indefinitely.

Secretary’s Report Secretary Tom Gibbons W9EYB reports
that the minutes for the January 5 General Membership Meeting (draft) and the
January 8 Board of Directors Meeting (draft) are at the head table. Members are reminded that most club business
is done at the Board of Directors meetings.
All members in good standing are invited to attend.
Treasurer’s Report Our new Treasurer, Lisa Gibbons
KF6QNG, does not have all bank records to reports account balances. President John Rogers reports balances given
at the January 8 Board of Directors meeting:
Checking $1,451.20, Savings $1,257.97, Cash $325.42 and the Scholarship
Fund savings transfer account $43.52.
The Scholarship Fund Certificate of Deposit matures early June, 2001.
Year 2001 ARALB member dues are payable now at $15, add $5 for the family
membership (in the same household). See
Lisa at the side table for particulars and for membership information. Year 2001 club dues, if not paid,
become delinquent on March 1,
2001. Join the ARRL or renew through
our club, adding $5 or $2 (respectively) to our treasury. Contact Director Hank Burwash KQ6RG tonight or

Payments are to the ARALB through the treasurer.

145.520 MHz simplex (except meeting
nights).

- The Thursday ARES nets: 6:30 p.m. on the 449.780 MHz repeater
(131.8 PL) and 223.800 MHz repeater (156.7 PL), also
at 6:45 p.m. on the 1.2 GHz repeater.
The 7 p.m. net on 145.520 MHz simplex for Los Angeles County ARES,
Southeast Section. Hear the weekly
amateur radio news report starting at 6:45 p.m.
- Tom Gibbons announces that Premier Communications
Corp. (makers of ADI and PRYME radios and accessories) has purchased the
146.610/146.010 MHz wide-area repeater (Tone 103.5 Hz). It is temporarily off the Sierra Peak
location, during maintenance, tuning and upgrading. It should return in the next few weeks. This open repeater will be for emergency, club and family use.
- The next J-pole antenna construction date through
ARALB and the Long
Beach ARES/RACES is announced for Saturday morning,
February 24. Antennas are planned for
each Long Beach school. Most materials
are donated. Your participation is very
much needed.

Testing Committee Chair Tom Gibbons W9EYB reports our
club amateur radio testing, all classes, through the Greater Los Angeles
Amateur Radio Group(GLAARG), is scheduled for Saturday, February 17, 9 a.m. at
California State University, Long Beach.
Go to the Human Services & Design Building (HSD), adjacent to Lot
9. Enter from Palo Verde Avenue (at its
intersection with Anaheim Road).

W6RO Club Station Report by the W6RO Wireless Room
Manager Nate Brightman K6OSC. The new
5-element 10-15-20m beam antenna and rotator arrived, donated by
MFJ-HyGain. Volunteer to help install

W6RO QSL Cards John Rogers KF6TTR reports that card
processing is up to date, sent monthly.
A new, smaller card will soon be used for international mailings, to
save postage with new, higher rates.
The present card is now shown on the ARALB web site.
Club Mug Sales The president reminds that ARALB
mugs are offered, 2 sizes. Customize
the mug with your name and call sign.
Blue-purple and black colors are for sale.
Long Beach ARES No report.
Training Committee A Technician Class license
preparation class is planned.
Instructors are identified. A

Field Day 2000 Volunteer now for Field Day
2001! A Field Day chair is badly needed.
Historian Marilyn Boone KF6GZF
continues and is introduced by the president.
Meeting Program Dennis Leslie, of Garden Grove, CA, speaks on the history of the Queen Mary liner and its final voyage to Long Beach. Dennis was chauffeur and “Man Friday” to Captain Treasure Jones, skipper of the Queen Mary for its last years. He is wearing a Merchant Marine officer uniform. The president presents an ARALB Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Leslie for this program.
The member egg drawing, now $10, is won by member Fred Wagner KQ6Q. He is present. The prize fund starts over next month at $5.
No
