The meeting is held at Signal Hill Community Center and called to order by President John Rogers KF6TTR at 7:13 p.m. XX persons signed the attendance book.
The
Flag Salute is led by Vice President Ray Rittenhouse KF6WZN.

Beach; Reggie Stevens K6RTH of Baldwin Park; Michael French K6RT, his wife
Christina French N6UNO and their daughter Stephanie French KG6HKT, of Lakewood;

KE6QKO of Anaheim; Jim Dunn N3ABQ of Orange; and Kurt Geitner K6RRA of Seal
Beach.
Secretary’s Report: Secretary Tom Gibbons W9EYB reports
that the minutes for the July 6 General Membership Meeting and for the July 9
Board of Directors meeting are at the head table. Most club business is done at the Board of Directors
meetings. The next director meeting is
Monday, August 6, 7 p.m. at the home of Lisa KF6QNG and Tom Gibbons W9EYB, Long
Beach. Directions and a map are
available on request. He explains the
director vacancy by the resignation of elected director Jerry Sulentich
KE6SI. Suggestions for an appointed
replacement director are needed.
A quorum of 6 is needed for each Board of Directors
meeting. If unable to attend, each
director is urged to contact Tom directly in advance of the meeting date. Director Carol Apt KF6THS will be absent
from the August Board of Director meeting.

Testing Committee Chair Tom Gibbons W9EYB reports
ARALB monthly amateur radio testing, all classes, through the Greater Los
Angeles Amateur Radio Group (GLAARG) is
next scheduled for Saturday, August 18, 9 a.m. at the CalState University
Police station, 1331 Palo Verde Ave. (between university parking lots #9 and
#11), Long Beach. Enter university Lot
#9 from Palo Verde Ave. (at its intersection southbound with Anaheim
Road). Follow the Testing signs from
Lot #9. Pre-registration is recommended
through Don Boyce (562-420-9480).

Training Committee: Chair Fred Wagner KQ6Q reports that
classes will be formed as requests are received by any committee member. Individual help with troublesome test
questions and “Elmering” assistance are
available here from 6 to 7 p.m. on meeting nights, also at the CalStateU

W6RO Club Station Wireless Room Assistant Station
Manager John Rogers KF6TTR reports the new 5-
The Wireless Room element 10m-15m-20m HyGain beam and
rotator will be installed starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. At least 5 helpers are needed. Wireless Room Operator status is not necessary;
check-in at the crew entrance security desk and show your license.
Wireless Room Station Manager Nate Brightman K6OSC
reports attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the Carnival Cruise Line
construction of a 1,000 foot pier and extensive facilities for cruise ship
passenger loading and unloading, administrative and logistical support. This will increase traffic at the Queen Mary
liner substantially. The security desk
and sign-in are now on board through the crew entrance. Increased security will require showing your
current Amateur Radio license in order to sign in for Wireless Room duty. ARALB member? Become a Wireless Room operator!

Long Beach ARES: Joe Provenza reports the need for
amateur radio operators to join and participate in Long Beach ARES and
RACES. Training is a continuing
obligation. Keep current! Planned ARES drills are August 11 9 a.m. to
Noon, the September XX beach cleanup and the Long Beach Marathon November 11.
American Red Cross The Greater Long Beach Chapter needs
Amateur Radio Operators, says Rick Silva WA6ES. Radio operators are needed for routine nets and station
operation, especially for disaster and emergency support. Many local community emergency responses are
supported where radio communications is desired. There are several working Amateur Radio transceivers at the Long
Beach Chapter. Telephone the Long Beach
Chapter for information and to volunteer.

Oscillator Newsletter: Editor Carina Lister KF6ZYY reminds
of the 15th of month deadline for articles and other information for
the coming issue. Her contact
information is in each newsletter.
New business:
Orange County Fair: Our club staffed 2 full Sundays (12
hours) and 1 Friday evening (4 hours) shifts.
This is more support than in Year 2000.
Volunteers tell of enjoying the fair and especially the contact with
visitors to the fair. Club flyers and
other information were distributed.

efforts.
ARRL Southwest This important, annual event is the
weekend of September 7-9 in the Riverside
Division Convention Convention Center. This is a wonderful opportunity to sell our
club to the many persons attending.
Advance tickets are available now, or may be purchased at the door. Check the arrl.org website under
“conventions” for details and contact information. Plan to go!
Meeting Program Member Rick Silva WA6ES offers an
interesting explanation and how-to for DX operations on the MF-HF-VHF-UHF
bands. This applies to every class of
license. Rick recently earned the
coveted ARRL DXCC Award. The president
presents a Certificate of Appreciation to Rick for this useful, interesting
program.
The
member egg drawing, now $25, is won by member Richard Freesmeier K6EM. He is not present. The prize fund next month increases to $30.
