I got interested in neighborhood association politics as
result of
radio which led me to CERT which led me to our own neighborhood
association. Because of my participation on a daily net with the local
yacht clubs, I suggested that we start a family radio net in our
neighborhood called the Cherrios net. Or maybe Vickie Elliott suggested
that we start a family radio net in our neighborhood called the Cheerios
net. I can't remember but it has been going on for years at 7 AM and is
a wealth of information.
The cool part about this net is all of the
non-licensed neighbors learn radio etiquette without having to go
through the rigors of becoming licensed., For some of our retired
neighbors, this is as big plus. If our neighborhood ever has a major
earthquake, I am thrilled to know that 21 radios will be aiding with
communication. I am more thrilled that three members of the
neighborhood: Chuck Williams, Vickie Elliott, and I have our ham
licenses and can tap into those resources as well. Odd hobby but I love
it.
